Chadron Public LibraryThe Chadron Public Library, located at 507 Bordeaux, contains 26,000 volumes and has an average annual circulation of 70,355. The library, providing an automated circulation and card catalog, has a weekly preschool story hour, summer reading program, out-reach worker, VHS/DVD video tapes, books on tape, copier service, microfiche reader, talking book service for the visually impaired, state documents, records, 16-mm. films, art prints, interlibrary loans, and CHIRS (a medical library loan). Internet is available to the public. A Library Foundation, funded by the Pauline Moody Estate, provides services beyond the city budget. Rita E. King LibraryThe Reta E. King Library at Chadron State College contains 200,000 printed volumes, and has an average annual circulation of 46,000. The library also has on-line computer access to more than 500 database systems, on-line Public Access Catalog (OPAC), internet access, complete ERIC microfiche collection, Bernard Donahue young people’s room, curriculum evaluation center, two computer labs, and subscriptions to 970 periodicals. In addition, the automated library system allows access via the nearest campus terminal to the electronic catalog of the Reta E. King Library as well as the catalogs of the other state colleges. A community library card can be used at the Chadron State College Library. Crawford Public LibraryThe Crawford Public Library is located at 601 Second Street on the west side of the street, one block south of the downtown business district. The Library and its Board of Trustees are fully accredited by the Nebraska Library Commission. In addition, the Library is an active member of the Panhandle Regional Library System and maintains membership in the Nebraska Library Association. There are separate adult and children's areas in the library as well as 4 networked public access computers linked by broadband. Library users may print from the public computers to a color/black and white printer unit. A library web site is available and contains many useful links such as the library online catalog, NebraskaAccess magazine services, children's services, information services, and a number of subject links of interest. The Library's collections include a wide variety of non-fiction works, periodicals and newspapers, a separate children's collection and young people's section, a large collection of general and mystery fiction, a large circulating paperback collection, and many videotapes, DVD's, and books-on-tape. |
