Chadron State Park consists of 1,500 acres of buttes and wooded hills in the Pine Ridge area approximately 10 miles south of Chadron. One of Nebraska’s most beautiful parks, it was developed in part by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) forces. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has maintained and added improvements annually. Park facilities include administration and maintenance buildings; 22 modern, fully equipped rental cabins; 20 tent and 70 camper sites; several picnic shelters; tennis and sand volleyball courts; supervised swimming pool; lake and stream fishing; rental paddleboats; supervised trail rides; four miles of nature trails; nine scenic miles of hard-topped roads; and a reconstruction of the Chartran Trading Post where visitors can try tomahawk throwing, craftmaking, and watch buckskinning and muzzleloading demonstrations during the summer.
